The experience imposed by commercial airlines is full of stress and discomfort. The speed they sell is an illusion and a 1-hour flight is actually 4 hours long from door to door. Finally and more importantly, air travel produces high carbon emissions.
Midnight Trains was born from these observations: it is time to propose a more comfortable, seamless and sustainable alternative.
We believe that the journey is as important as the destination and that every moment is precious. To connect the largest European cities together, we set ourselves a challenge: create a hotel on rails, by redesigning the night train experience.
In 2024, we will launch our first line from our hub in Paris, which will set the foundation of our deployment plan, with one ambition: propose a network of more than 10 destinations with distances from 800 to 1,500 km.
We can not wait to welcome you onboard and shape together the future of travel in a greater, greener and more comfortable way.
In my previous life I co-founded KissKissBankBank. It took me time to find a new venture with the same level of passion. I consider entrepreneurship as a way to both fix huge problems and share emotions with people. A good product should be like a good song, a good movie or a good glass of wine.
I had the idea during a dinner in Athens and I fell in love with Midnight Trains in a second.
Midnight it’s a train, a hotel, a restaurant and an app connecting Europe and its cultures with no limit. I look forward to seeing many of you onboard.
Midnight is a unique, dreamt and exciting adventure for an entrepreneur. Unique because it addresses the crucial need to travel, this desire to discover the world and the emergency to do it by respecting the planet.
Dreamt because I share it with Adrien and we've been working in concert for more than six years now. Exciting because it offers an infinite range of opportunities in a two-hundred-year-old, quasi-monopolistic and complex sector that is just waiting to be reinvented.
When Adrien pitched Midnight to me, I immediately understood it was the project I would work on for the next twenty years. And it’s kind of ironic for me who grew up in Reunion Island without trains and with a part of my family being pioneers in the aviation industry. I want to share with you all the emotions that this project makes me feel, by delivering a new, comfortable and sustainable way of travelling.
I have always been passionate about travelling, from my odysseys to Greece as a kid to my daily city commutes. Today I am an artistic director. When I design a logo for Ricard, when I launch the ski brand Black Crows or when I work on the French version of Vanity Fair, I envision the desires of the consumer, the ski-rider or the reader. For Midnight, I draw from my night train memories, from the legacy of industrial revolution logotypes and from the creation of my Greek café, Yorgaki.
Adrien’s and Romain’s vision have been contagious and the pride to be onboard is already huge.
It’s been two years since I last took a plane.
Before this, I used to be one of those who jumped in an airplane without thinking. Until I measured the impact of these trips. I shaped this wake-up call through my actions within the C40 network and the Communauté Ecotable.
After these two years, I can tell you that stopping flying allows you to reconnect with the essence of travelling. On board a train, time is suspended. Landscapes roll past, inspiration comes, discussions start, until, suddenly, you reach your destination, just as if time had flown.
I can't wait for Midnight to carry you away.
I have been hiking for 13 years and I have six good reasons to do so: travelling, enjoying simple pleasures, earning the goal to achieve, leaving my comfort zone, feeling good physically and clearing my head. Just like when I created the Intercités trains in France, I like to go further, higher, to things differently and give satisfaction. And this is what binds me to the great project of Midnight Trains.
Improving the travel experience has always been my ambition. After working with the French Transport Minister, I contributed to the renewal of the railway industry at SNCF and Thalys. I then took a very logical path, always with this willingness to address the needs of travel lovers, at Accor and Pierre et Vacances-Center Parcs. By combining transportation and hospitality, Midnight will regenerate the mythology of night trains. Get on board!
A double crush explains why I joined Midnight Trains: Adrien Aumont who has enlightened me with his rational intelligence and my fascination for new paradigms concerning sustainable travel.
As an innovative troublemaker in hospitality and design, I work on urban renewal issues, as in the context of the renewal of La Cité de la Mode et du Design, the creation of the Mama Shelter hotels and MOB Hotel.
As an entrepreneur and investor acting on social and environmental impact, I have always loved to take on challenges, to break codes in every venture I founded or kicked-start, such as Promovacances, Club-Internet, 9 Telecom and Direct Energie.
When Adrien and Romain told me about Midnight Trains, it was impossible for me not to get onboard and help them develop a more comfortable and sustainable way of traveling.
